William “Bill” Roy Todd

William “Bill” Roy Todd, age 76, passed away at his home on Friday, April 24, 2020 in Syracuse, Kansas. He was born on August 9, 1943 in Hartville, Missouri, the son of William Woodrow Todd and Aleth Josephine (Odell) Todd.
Bill was born in rural Hartville, Missouri at this family home, the first child of five. Living around Hartville he started working for his uncle Babe Todd. He attended school at Hartville Public School until the ninth grade. In 1961, he moved to Syracuse to work for Paul & Leon Burkhart doing farm and seasonal work. He walked from Missouri to Syracuse, sleeping under bridges. Then he worked for the Hamilton County Road Department for six years. He then began working for K & L Trucking, hauling saltwater. On July 9, 1966, he married Linda Jean Helton, in Linda’s parents house in Syracuse. To this union they had a son Jamie Ray. In 1973, Bill’s sister’s son Anthony Truster came to live with them and they adopted him after her passing. Bill cleaned out sewer lines in Syracuse and the surrounding communities for over 40 years taking Linda along and the boys when they were old enough. He loved to tinker with vehicles and learned to be a mechanic from his father-in-law. He loved being the janitor for the First Presbyterian Church for over 25 years. He wasn’t afraid to take on any challenge, and he raised hogs for several years. He enjoyed living in Syracuse and resided there until his passing.

Bill was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Syracuse. He enjoyed collecting old copper, junk iron and cans. Bill was a fisherman at heart and went to lots of lakes around southwest Kansas on family trips with his in-laws. He loved his family and spending time with them. He loved old westerns, country music, and the soap opera Days Of Our Lives, going for rides every day with Jamie and getting a soda and listening to country and gospel music. He would spend his Sunday’s watching John Hagee, Joel Osteen, and Joyce Myers. Bill will truly be missed by his family and friends.
