I Forgot!

 Are you ever walking along feeling like something just isn’t right but not sure what that is?
There isn’t a lot of time to figure it out and there is plenty of work to be done so you don’t dwell on it?
That has been me lately. I feel like something just isn’t right but I can’t quite get centered.
I went to church on Sunday but it wasn’t a Lent or Palm Sunday thing or even that I felt like going. I just got up and went because I should. 
A guest pastor spoke and wWOW. I realized what was wrong.
I forgot. I got caught up in people and fears and worries. I forgot about the glory of God!
I forgot his miracles his goodness and the relationship I have with him. I was focusing on my hurts my pain my fears. I lost interest in church and got bogged down in the world. 
With all the 24 hour news, social media it’s a lot but it got worse. I saw some religious videos. Jewish and Christian talking about all the rules. Do this do that. You’re not really Christian unless you do this or if you have done that you can’t be. It was enough to make my heart dull.
Then this guest preacher reminded me of how God loves impossible. How it’s not a list of rules but an experience.  
My experiences with God have been incredible. From small moments to major life changing unexplainable moments. God is good! 
Once I was driving 85 mph on a highway without a care in the world. My front tire blew. Instead of careening off the road, it was like a giant hand slowed my vehicle down to stop. I could have died that day.  Many people drove by but one man stopped on the side of the road to help me. He gave me his card. He was a humble youth pastor. I still have his card all these years later. 
It doesn’t always work that way.   
Sometimes life is painfully hard. And that even in the darkest times and pain, God is good and to trust Him. He knows your heart. He knows your battles. He knows. He is not surprised.  
What if this Easter we stopped and remembered our experience of God. It doesn’t come with rules or checklists. It comes with you giving your life to Him. 
If you take nothing else from this, take that God loves you. Yes you. No matter what you have done. No matter who you have hurt including yourself, God loves you. Does He want more for you? Yes! 
But the foundation is love. God is love.
And that God loves impossible. When I met Jesus on the side of the road, I wasn’t dressed the nicest. I didn’t have the best habits or the nicest thoughts. I was weighed down heavy and unsure where I was going. 
But God.
He met me right there on a highway in Arizona. I felt a love warm me over exactly as I was. I wasn’t my past. I wasn’t my deeds. I wasn’t anything. I was just basking in His love. 
And I did nothing to change myself. He changed me. He put a spirit in me to want to do better to want to make better choices. 
Years ago I was offered the Executive Director position at Big Brothers Big Sisters of the High Plains. Some people were sitting in a  local restaurant saying, “Who does she think she is?”
As if I was acting like I was better than them. I laughed to myself. I am nobody. I didn’t even apply for the job. It was just handed to me.
There is a great Casting Crowns song that says, “‘Cause I’m just a nobody
Trying to tell everybody. All about Somebody who saved my soul.”
That’s me. A nobody. And it’s wonderful. Happy Easter!
