Summertime in Syracuse

thumbthumb

For students in school, summer has officially begun and on most everyone’s mind is "when is the pool going to open?"
If you have driven by, it is obvious the pre-season work is still progressing, and according to board member Amy Dikeman the pool was cleaned last week, and they are painting this week.
“It has been a couple of years, so it is time,” said Dikeman. After the painting is completed, it must cure for seven days, and they hope to have it filled and open at the beginning of June. While they have hired some lifeguards, they are still in need of more.
This year the manager is Dakira Limon, assisted by Jayden Mitchell and Ximena Portillo. “We are excited about these three and anticipate a very successful year,” said Dikeman.
Swimming lessons will be offered again this summer. Amy Norton will be the coordinator/instructor. “We are VERY excited to offer this again and it’s such a valuable life skill,” added Dikeman.
While some are waiting for the pool to open, you can cool off with a snow cone. The Sno Shack opened Wednesday, May 22 and is located on Main Street, south of Rhinestones N Rodeo, serving up your favorites from years past with some new additions.
How about trying Bulldog Spirit (orange, black cherry and sour spray), Barbie, (pink bubble gum, whipped cream, and pink sprinkles), Mango Chamoyada, (mango, chamdy, and chili powder), or Shark Attack (tiger's blood and blue raspberry)?
The menu includes too many items to list, but there is something for everyone’s taste buds including sugar free and dye free options.
Purchasing a snow cone is easy with several different options including cash, debit and credit cards, venmo,  and cash app. If you purchase frequently, ask them about punch cards, buy ten, get one free. Hours: Monday – Saturday 1:00  – 7:00 PM. They are closed Sunday.
Pickleball has been a popular sport for many years, and now with the addition of a pickleball court west of the swimming pool, locals can enjoy, and no it has nothing to do with pickles.
Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong using a paddle and plastic ball with holes.
