The SHS Bulldogs faced the 4-A Holcomb Longhorns for the final home game of the season, with the varsity teams unable to win. The boys will be the number three seed in first sub state match up at home, Monday, March 1, against the number 6 seed, Stanton County. This will be the fourth time for the duel this year.
The number six seed girls will travel to Spearville on Tuesday, March 2, to meet up with the number three seed, Spearville, at 5:00.
Head girls varsity coach, Kendra Fyler felt the girls played some of the best basketball all season. “In the end, we gave up too many boards and missed some easy shots that hurt us,” adding, “We’ll use this week to get ready for post season and be ready to go Tuesday!”
The girls celebrated seniors Jayden Mitchell and Kate Riley’s last home game on Tuesday. “They have been great leaders and I am extremely proud of what they have accomplished the last three years,” said Fyler. She hopes to get a win on Tuesday to keep their season going.
Head boys coach Jordan Wahlmeier commented Holcomb was so disciplined defensively it caused frustration all night. “They were one step quicker at everything, we couldn’t stay in front of them, but our boys battled though, and the effort level and intensity were there, we just couldn’t get a shot to fall.” Wahlmeier and the boys have been preparing for substate all year. “The boys will be focused and ready to play and it’s win or go home, who doesn’t love some March Madness?”
