How Vulnerable Are You?

Thanks for your patience last week. I am still recovering but have returned to the land of the living! I get frustrated with how slow it takes to recover sometimes when really I should focus on the fact that I am recovering. 
I truly feel like I am getting stronger and then I have a coughing fit at 3:00 AM that can discourage me quickly. 
On Wednesday morning, despite it all, I took my dogs and met my friend for a walk. It had been weeks. 
I pushed myself, coughed, walked, coughed, talked, coughed. lol. Thankfully my friend has zero expectations on our walks. So if I had to stop after two blocks she wouldn’t be upset with me. 
Well, I made it a mile. It is normally in the amount of time I do 1.5 miles but it was still a good morning! My dogs appreciated it too! And the cool weather got me excited for fall!
 Next week is my husband and I’s 20th wedding anniversary. I find that incredibally hard to believe. He is the one who remembers these things more than I. But his thoughts are roaming between planting wheat, fall harvest, cattle, sheep, and our daughter’s volleyball games. There isn’t much time for anniversary discussion. 
 When it comes to our anniversary, we are pretty simple. We find a way to go out for a meal or just dance to a song in our living room. It’s more about the milestone. 
And honestly to be healthy enough to dance without coughing for a song would be wonderful to me. 
Twenty years. Looking back, that girl knew nothing of healthy relationships thought we should renew our vows at ten years because that was such a long time! lol.
 A lot has changed over the years. I am grateful daily for him, for our daughter, for our family. And while I didn’t always say or do the right things, I am excited just to smile at him, give him a hug and a kiss, and dance to a song in our living room. 
 What are you feeling blessed with? Who? This world isn’t easy. Maybe the inner hippie in me is coming out because I just want more people to focus on the good. 
I watched some news and scrolled social media this week. The hate, the anger, the finger pointing, the demands were incredibly painful to watch. 
I saw people saying if your church doesn’t talk about this assassination, then you need to leave. I saw authors unfollowing other authors and getting rid of their books because of politics. 
I think everyone has the right to their own opinion and the right to share it. I don’t agree that it has to be your way or I leave. I don’t believe that is the way forward. 
Someone sharing their opinion that I don’t agree with doesn’t frighten me. What scares me is groups of people who blindly back that person. Suddenly, a mob has formed demanding we do things a certain way. 
 What if you are wrong? What if we approached people eager to learn instead of demanding to prove we are right? 
Where is our vulnerability?
I remember a story of Beth Moore, an evangelist and author. She was in an airport and felt the spirit of God. She was excited. What should I do? How can I help? God said, see that elderly man in the wheelchair. Go brush his hair. 
Her response was, “God I will do anything but please don’t make me do that.” Eventually she acquiesced and it was a moving story of how God works. 
I had a great conversation the other day with a friend who loves God about getting vulnerable. We shared a couple of personal stories back and forth and really touched each other’s hearts. To truly reach someone, we need to be able to share those pieces. 
My point? It is easy to play God sometimes. It is easy to say if they would only do this or that. But to truly walk in their shoes? To get uncomfortable enough to let God work through you sometimes means getting vulnerable. 
I wonder how many of us would brush that man’s hair.
