Charles “Carl” Gould was born on May 18, 1956, to Dennis and Karleen (Helfrich) Gould in Syracuse, Kansas. He grew up in Syracuse, where he attended school and graduated from high school in 1975.

After graduation, Carl worked for various farmers in the area but soon realized farming was not his calling. He tried his hand at driving a semi-truck, yet this too proved not to be his path. Determined to find his niche, Carl opened a radiator shop in Syracuse, which he successfully ran for several years before deciding to explore new opportunities.

One of Carl’s lifelong dreams was to visit Idaho, where his great-grandmother had lived. Though he had never been, the idea remained close to his heart. In 1983, he packed his car and headed west, initially planning a brief stay. Fate intervened when he met the love of his life, Jude Enfield, shortly after arriving in Idaho.

Carl decided to make Parma, Idaho, his home. He and Jude married on May 8, 1985, beginning a life filled with love and hard work. Carl took a job in the mechanic shop at J.C. Watson in Parma before eventually launching his own business, Carl’s Repair Service. With Jude by his side, Carl specialized in repairing small engines, tractors, and forklifts.

Carl loved riding his Harley, a passion he shared with Jude. Together, they took many road trips across the country, packing their little trailer with everything they might need. These adventures, often shared with friends, created cherished memories they held dear.
In later years, Carl became a devoted caregiver to Jude as her health declined. After her passing, his own health began to falter, and he spent his final years housebound. In his last months, he was lovingly cared for by his daughter, Tracey.

Carl passed away on November 16, 2024, at St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise, Idaho. He is survived by his parents, Dennis and Karleen Gould of Syracuse, Kansas; his daughter, Tracey Tengs of Caldwell, Idaho; and his grandchildren: Seth Kline of Caldwell; Kyle Kline and wife Tessa of Parma; Becka Means of Caldwell; and Kaylah Tengs of Fruitland, Oregon. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren: Jeramy and Seth Jr. of Caldwell, and Hayden, Katelynn, Addelynn, and Azalee of Parma. Other surviving family members include his sister, Denette Kirkland of Syracuse; his niece, Kandice (Ky) Westeman of Syracuse; great-nieces, great-nephew and great-great nephews; as well as his sister-in-law, Carlene Rowland of Ontario, Oregon.
Carl’s warm heart, hardworking nature, and love for his family will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service for Carl will be held in Parma, Idaho next spring.
