Inez Glasscock

At age 93, Inez Marie Glasscock, Wife of Albert W Glasscock, mother of Michael W Glasscock passed on December 2, 2019.

Inez Marie Brunkow, daughter of Emil and Marie Brunkow was born at Western in eastern Nebraska on June 8, 1924. She lived in Western through elementary and high school grades, graduating from Western High School in 1943. 

Inez graduated from Lincoln College in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1945 and the following year, November 26, 1946 married her high school sweetheart, Albert Glasscock at the family home in Fairbury, Nebraska, 

Al and Inez led a nomadic lifestyle during the early years of their married life as Al worked as an apprentice for the masonry union. 

They settled in Wichita, Kansas, where they built their first home, later relocating to Syracuse, Kansas in the early 1960s where they owned several businesses. They operated the “66” 24 hour truck stop in Syracuse and later built and conducted a restaurant at the Holiday Inn Motel in Syracuse. Tiring of the food industry, they remained in Syracuse as Al returned to work as a skilled masonry craftsman. 

Inez assisted her husband in his bricklaying and construction work, while the couple raised their son, Michael, and tended a substantial flower and vegetable garden located at their Syracuse home. 

Al and Inez personally remodeled their Syracuse home and when it came time for garden harvest shared the bounty of their fruit and vegetable garden with friends and family. 

Inez followed a tradition taught to her by her mother of harvesting and canning much of the garden’s produce. She also maintained a colorful flower garden in Syracuse featuring a large variety of roses which were her favorite flower. It was a source of pride and proved an attraction to passersby who drove out of their way just to see what was blooming in the Glasscock gardens. 

Inez and Al were members of the Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star in Syracuse. 

She relocated to Montrose, Colorado to live with her son and daughter-in-law in 2017, after Al’s passing in 2014. She leaves many good friends in Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado.

Inez was preceded in death by her parents Emil and Marie Brunkow, husband Albert, brothers Erwin

and Richard and sister, Irene Marschman.

She is survived by son and daughter-in law, grandaughter Heather Marie and extended family,

Sonya & Jordan Roberts and children, Maya and Drake; Nicole Thompson Goring and children, Makyla

and Geron; Nalhan and Jessica Gordon and children Kiara and Ember.

She enjoyed family gatherings and is missed by all.

A  June 6th memorial service is planned in Syracuse Kansas.
