Janet Sue (Daugherty) Davis
Janet Sue (Daugherty) Davis was born October 29, 1935 to William S. and Virginia Ward (Walter) Daugherty in Hays, KS where her father was employed by the Eli Lilly Co. Sue passed away September 20th, 2021 in the Hamilton County Hospital. Sue started school as Janet, but there was another girl in her class named Janet so her teacher said she would be called by her middle name Sue to avoid confusion. The family moved to Syracuse for her father to join her Grandfather W. C. Daugherty in the family drug store. Sue attended school and graduated with the Class of 1953, but not before having her first date with Ron. Sue attended Lindenwood College for one year before transferring to the University of Kansas to pursue a pharmacy degree. She was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. On August 12, 1956 she married Ron Davis and they moved to San Diego where Ron served in the Navy. Their first son Ray K. Davis was born there and the family moved back to Syracuse for Ron to join his father at Davis Motor Company. Their second son Mark was born after arriving back in Syracuse in 1958. Sue was an active school room mother, Cub Scout Den Leader and was a frequent referee for numerous arguments and fights between the two boys. Then Ron and Sue’s lives were changed forever eleven years later when Jill surprised the family with her arrival. Sue was involved in all of Jill’s activities including sports and music. By the time Jill graduated there were grandchildren to add to her always busy life. Music was always in Sue’s life, from accompanying the SHS vocalists, playing piano for the Methodist Churches in Syracuse and Westcliffe, CO and performing with a group of friends known as Musical Hands. Sue also enjoyed water skiing, fishing, sewing and quilting. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, her brother William C. Daugherty II and their oldest son Ray. She is survived by her husband Ron of Syracuse, son Mark and his wife Donna of Syracuse, daughter Jill Beam and husband Todd of McPherson, daughter in law Teresa Davis of Denver. Grandchildren Jeff Davis and wife Mary of Syracuse, Randy Davis and wife Brittany of Colorado Springs, Andy Davis and wife Susan of Denver, Mimi Toliuszis and husband John of Parker, CO, Duke Davis and wife Eli of Memphis, Katelyn Beam and Kassidy Beam of McPherson. Great Grandchildren Clara Davis of Syracuse, Rafe and Reece Davis of Colorado Springs, Duke and Jack Davis of Parker, CO, Hunter, Georgia and Charlotte Toliuszis of Parker, CO and Isabella Davis of Memphis.
Funeral Services will be held onSaturday, September 25, 2021at 10:00 AM (MDT) at the First Presbyterian Church, Syracuse, Kansas.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 24, 2021 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM (MDT) at the Fellers Funeral Home LLC in Syracuse, Kansas.
