Larry Gene Holdren

Larry Gene Holdren was born November 16, 1971, in Syracuse, Kansas to Charles Richard and Beverly Jean (Potter) Holdren. He passed from this life on November 24, 2023, in Highlands Ranch, Colorado after suffering an aortic tear.

He leaves behind many family and friends who will miss him dearly, including wife Kari Jean White, daughters, Emma Elaine and Avery Jean Holdren, step-sons Logan Anthony and Gavin William White, his mother Beverly Holdren, and twin brother Terry (Natalie) Holdren. He was preceded in death by his father and an infant son Elijah Emery Holdren.

Larry was a fun-loving, outgoing, and generous soul. Following his graduation from Syracuse High School and later Bethany College he began a career in communications at Children’s Hospital in Denver, CO, which was conveniently the home of his lifelong football team, the Broncos, and later the Nuggets and the Rockies. Like his father, Larry followed many sports and athletes and was passionate about all of them. Larry married Sara (Thelen) Holdren, and together they welcomed two daughters, Emma and Avery, who remained the lights of his life. He coached his girls in soccer and basketball and always ensured their homework was grammatically correct. He passed down an appreciation of sports, a passionate spirit, a love of adventure, and thick red hair.

Larry met Kari in 2012 and together they lived life to the fullest, spending time with their four kids, traveling the world, adopting a whole menagerie of pets and, most recently, training for and running the Berlin marathon. They could often be found skinning up a mountain, camping with their pets, listening to live music or laughing with friends. He lived for his family and friends and would never turn down an opportunity to visit them or cheer them on. He loved hard and laughed often. 

He was passionate about the world of energy and its impact on the environment and communities. He founded Holdren Strategic Communications, RenUSA, Western Freedom and the Colorado Energy and Water Institute to further this work. Larry was a connector. He brought a unique skill set and depth of experience as a communicator but will be remembered best as a man who never knew a stranger. He had the extraordinary ability to bring people together and make introductions that mattered.

Consistent with his care for others, Larry was an organ donor. His passing provided life giving opportunity to many. For that his family is grateful.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 2 at 10am at 111 Market Street Morrison, Co, and a celebration of life is planned for Sunday, December 3 from Noon to 3pm at Carboy Winery in Littleton, Co.
