Pamela LaCost
Pamela Kay LaCost was born February 18th, 1965 in Syracuse, KS. She realized her final wish by passing away peacefully at her residence, surrounded by family and loved ones, on January 3, 2025, at the age of 59.
Affectionately known to everyone as Pam, she spent her life caring and serving others, both through her careers and through her friendships. Pam was born in Syracuse and shortly after, her family moved to Utah. That move was followed by many others over the years, including time spent in Pueblo, CO. She graduated from Pueblo Central High School in 1982, after which, she became a CNA. She ultimately remained in this profession for approximately two decades, intermittently stepping away from nursing to explore her entrepreneurial pursuits.
Pam moved back to the Syracuse area in 1984 and spent the remainder of her years here. During this time, she gave birth to her first son, Shawn Kelly Dewey, August 19th, 1985. Six years later, Pam gave birth to her second son, David Lee Miller, September 12th, 1991. To balance her desire to work along with her commitment to her children, Pam operated a daycare from her home throughout the 1990s, caring for each child with such affection that she often joked about forgetting which ones were her own.
Her passion for learning led her back to school for massage therapy, and she established a massage business, which she eventually had to close due to arthritis in her hands. Pam dedicated time to offering home health care services to individuals both while she was a massage therapist and subsequently. On October 20th, 2007, she married the love of her life, Duane LaCost, and they spent the rest of their lives together residing in Kendall. The last few years of her life were spent working at the Christian Academy, and also volunteering her time working at the budget shop. Pam loved spending her free time dabbling in the arts through painting, crocheting, quilting, etc as well as reading books, helping others, spending time with her boys, and most of all, spending time with Duane, the dogs, and Zombie the cat. Her fire for life and her loving, caring heart will be missed by all who knew her.
Pam was preceded in death by mother, Alvena Dewey, one granddaughter, and various aunts and uncles. She is survived in death by her husband, Duane LaCost of Kendall, son Shawn and Amber Dewey, of Syracuse; son David and Mallory (Horton) Miller, of Syracuse; sister Kim Dewey, of Garden City; brother Dan Dewey, of Syracuse; son Jaime and Monica LaCost, of Frankfort; son Joe and Lana LaCost, of Belleville; daughter Amanda and Jason Newton, of Salina; daughter Ann and Chris Sudermann, of Solomon; and 5 grandchildren as well as many other aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Memorial service will be Thursday January 16th, 2025 at 10 MST at the Kendall United Methodist Church. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Garnand's Funeral Home, PO Box 91, Lakin, KS 67860 with Pam LaCost written in the memo line.
