William “Pug” Eugene Mitchell

William “Pug” Eugene Mitchell passed away at Logan County Senior Center in Oakley, Kansas on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at the age of 83.  He was born April 10, 1939 in Beloit, Kansas. He was the son of William Arthur Mitchell and Edna Sophronia (Colby) Mitchell.

Pug began his life in Beloit and at the age of 3 he moved with his family to Tribune, Kansas where he spent his entire life living. He attended Tribune Grade School and Tribune High School where he graduated from in 1958. He went on to further his education attending a technical school in St. Louis, Missouri studying mechanics for a short time. He returned to Tribune in 1959 where he would persue a job in the mechanic industry. He then met and married the love of his life Patricia Kay Doty on March 17, 1961 in Tribune. To this union three children were born, Ralph Eugene, Robin Kay, and Rocky Allen. He worked at various places before becoming employed at John Deere as a Combine Technician where he was employed from 1970 to 1993. Later that same year he began working at Myers Implement until 2005. He then went to work for the Greeley County Landfill where he was employed until 2022. He never officially retired because he was always one that wanted to stay busy and socialize with people. He really enjoyed living in Horace and resided there until his passing.

Pug was a 4-H leader, Councilman for the city of Horace, and the Greeley County Cemetery Board. He enjoyed putting models together, working on lawn mowers, fixing broken things for anyone, talking to people, working with his hands, square dancing, bowling, going to casinos, and he never knew a stranger, but his greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family, grandkids, and great grandkids.

He is preceded in death by his father, William Arthur Mitchell, his mother, Edna Sophronia (Colby) Mitchell, one brother, Benard James Mitchell, two sisters:  Carol Fultz and Rosie Cross, one Sister In Law: Pat Mitchell, and one Brother In Law: Sid Hays.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Kay Mitchell of Horace, KS, two sons: Ralph (& wife Allison) Mitchell of Sharon Springs, KS, and Rocky (& wife Stacy) Mitchell of Topeka, KS, one daughter:  Robin (& husband Kenny) Zerr of Tribune, KS, two brothers:   Joseph (& wife Pat) Mitchell of Tampa FL, and David (& wife Joyce) Mitchell of Lawrence, KS, three sisters:  Lucille (& husband Roger) Bitner of Marion, KS, Kathy (& husband Jerry) Slover of Jacksonville, FL, Connie Hays of Alamo, TX, five Grandchildren:  Heather Mowrer of Rossville, KS, Andrew Reuber of Atwood, KS, Nathan Mitchell of Emporia, KS, Rachelle Mitchell of Overland Park, KS, Cole Mitchell, Topeka, KS, six Great Grandchildren. And numerous family members and friends.

Mass Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 13, 2023 at 10:00 AM  at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tribune, Kansas, burial will follow with graveside services at the Greeley County Cemetery in Tribune. 

Rosary will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at 6:30 PM at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Tribune.
