God Loves Them

I have been watching Tik Tok prison videos. Inmates who are doing life sentences are getting saved. It brings tears to my eyes to see a peace that passes understanding.

Do I wish they didn’t have to find God there? Yes! Do I wish I didn’t go through what I went  through to find Him?  Absolutely!

Did you know God loves you? Most people would say yes. 

Did you know He loves them too? He loves the crack addict. He loves the abuser. He loves the drunkard and the thief. He loves all of us AND them. 

Sometimes that reminder hurts, especially when many have hurt us.

Did you know His love is like rain or sunshine - it falls on all of us.

Did you know He doesn’t like everything we do? 

He doesn’t like that I judged. He doesn’t like that you gossiped. He doesn’t like that you raised your voice to someone.

We could dissect this all day into what he loves and doesn’t love but put simply, He loves us and He doesn’t love all our behaviors.  

And He knows we can’t do it without Him. 

Many years ago I couldn’t even read the bible without great fear because of the word “Father.” My relationship with my own dad was so strained and filled with abuses, I felt like I was constantly being scolded and never good enough. 

Reading the bible was the first time in my life I ever contemplated ending it. Why you ask? Because if I couldn’t please God then it was pointless to walk the Earth. 
It was a good friend who talked me down. It was a good friend who explained He wasn’t scolding me. 

Think about how many people won’t come to church, won’t acknowledge God because of their past experiences. 

I remember once getting after a kid for throwing a can on the ground, only later to learn he had been abused.

When I see a young child exhibit inappropriate behaviors, I know something evil has taken place. 

But that can be harder to see once the child gets to be a teenager.

The truth, we don’t know someone’s past and it isn’t our business. 

I believe it is our business to love others and show them how God loved our messed up selves and how He loves them too.

People often say I am fine. I don’t need God or religion. I feel bad because my relationship with God is so much more than fine, so much more than forgiveness. There is sweet supernatural moments I cannot describe to you that have happened to me. And there is beauty of what your life could be. 

We often talk about how God can heal you. True. But He can also take you to incredible heights. 

For some the journey is battling the past a bit longer than others. But sometimes that makes the reward even sweeter. 

We often want to fix people. That’s God’s job. I think our job is to show them a love greater than us. A love that only can come from God.

And let me say I fail at this daily. So please don’t look to me. Look to Him.
