Thoughts and Actions

I am writing this Wednesday morning and it rained overnight! I fell asleep to the beautiful sound of thunder and rain hitting the ground. 
Fall will be here Sunday. While the temperatures are still warm, I am looking forward to some cooler weather.
    In Hamilton County wheat is being planted, some corn and milo is being harvested.
And fall sports are well underway. Buses heading here or there for cross country, football, volleyball, and golf. 
 There is a lot going on in my world. Our lambs go to market today. Goodbyes are always hard!
  I have my daughter’s volleyball games coming up and I get to watch her cheer at the junior high football games.
   Homecoming is this Friday. I am excited to watch all the classes and teams come down Main Street in this time honored tradition. It’s the little things that so many take for granted or complain about. They are miracles to me. 
  My daughter goes to school where her dad and grandfather went to school, where her great grandma taught. 
  For someone who went to 20 different schools before graduating high school, that is a miracle to me. 
  Rain is another  miracle here. 
So many people who move here say they will never take another rain shower or thunderstorm for granted again. 
  What other little things do we take for granted? 
  My husband and I have our 19th wedding anniversary next week. We have been together 21 years! I may say this every year but growing up on the road with zero healthy life skills makes every year a huge accomplishment!
  And while I cherish our family, life continues to move forward. As our daughter grows and her needs change, we readjust our time, our commitments. 
  Some doors begin closing as others open. 
Life, right?
 Do you stop and look around at what you have right now? 
What is working? What isn’t? 
Where do you need to adjust? 
    At church the pastor spoke about taming the tongue. 
 His message was about gossiping and what we say. But I will add to it I think it’s the attitude of our heart. His words continued to convict me all week. 
  I was grouchy from not sleeping, frustrated at a number of things I don’t agree with, sad about saying goodbye to our lambs, and other things out of my control. 
  But taming my tongue to me says  I need to pay attention to what I think and say. 
  While I didn’t do it perfectly this week, I was mindful of my thoughts and actions. 
  I think that’s a good start.
