Treasure

Here we are, halfway through 2023. Anyone else think it’s flying by? 
There are two weeks until the county fair begins. Two weeks! 
 Seven weeks until school starts. I feel like the clock is on full speed and I can’t catch my breath.
 I read the bible verse Matthew 6:21 - For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
What is your treasure? What are you focusing on? What plans do you have?
Is it money? Love? Dreams?
When I think of treasure I think of an x on a map that I am walking towards. 
And there are obstacles along the way, challenges I need to overcome. At least that is how it is in Dora the Explorer episodes I used to watch with my daughter.
 So on that path, when I am going through the obstacles, I need to remember the treasure. 
And I think it is different for everyone. 
Wherever direction you are headed, there is going to be challenges to face. 
As I sit here writing this, as time ticks by faster and faster, some of those goals need to be more defined. 
How did the last six months go for you?
Where are you headed? 
For me, it is getting to the county fair, a quick trip somewhere, some time at the pool, and then school begins, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and welcome 2024. 
This is my daughter’s last year of elementary school. I feel like it was yesterday when I cried in the school parking lot wondering how I would handle eight hours without here. Now she is becoming more independent. 
Watching her grow and change is amazing but also tough. My baby isn’t a baby anymore. We don’t get the time back. 
So in these next six or seven weeks before school, I want my time to be more intentional. 
I want to enjoy all the time I have with my family. 
 And building memories. There, that is my treasure - building wonderful memories in the midst of a crazy world that seems to be getting crazier. 
 As each chapter is written, life is changing, moving forward. Parts of life are in our control and other parts are not. 
Where is your focus? What road are you  on? We won’t get this time back. 
I hope wherever you are this summer, you get to build some wonderful memories and you cherish the time you have.
 One of my favorite poems, Ithaca by Constantine Cavafy comes to mind. 
“Always keep Ithaca in your mind.
To arrive there is your ultimate goal.
But do not hurry the voyage at all.
It is better to let it last for many years;
and to anchor at the island when you are old,
rich with all you have gained on the way,
not expecting that Ithaca will offer you riches.”
