Wonder

I woke up Tuesday from a good night’s sleep and excited for the day to begin. Since I am not a morning person, this was a nice change.  I showered, dressed, and went with my daughter to help her with morning chores at the barn. 
Since it hadn’t rained I wasn’t concerned about getting too wet or dirty.
 Ha! One sheep rolled in something and suddenly I am pulling out all the stops. 
When I should have been heading to work, I was still at the sheep barn. My jeans and shoes were soaked and stinky. My coat was filthy. We have only had the sheep a couple weeks. Not all the supplies are out at the barn since it still freezes at night. 
 So running back and forth to the house making sure we had everything to get this sheep washed and dried in 30 degree weather was not on my agenda. But I smiled anyway and maybe cussed a litte under my breath. I mean if I am being real here. LOL. The sun was out, the wind wasn’t blowing, and my daughter and I were building memories together.
When we got home, stripped down and threw everything in the washing machine, my daughter said, “Thank you Mom. I couldn’t have done all that without you.”
Tears welled up with joy. 
 I saw on the news where a young 16 year old from Garden City perished in a car accident. 
 All I can think of when I see these stories is, I jsut want to build all the memories I can because tomorrow is not promised.
 It is near the end of Spring Break. We had no plans to get away but I need a quick out of town trip to somewhere with my family just to reset. Spring is here in just a couple days even though the weather doesn’t show it. 
We are busier in the field, with sheep. school, and basketball. 
 I am grateful for busy hands and for the strength and health to do the tasks at hand. 
But everyone needs a little fun, right?
Maybe it’s a picnic in the backyard, reading a story with your child, or painting some rocks. 
Maybe you get a day out of town and the weather is nice? 
I went to a fun production of Alice in Wonderland over the weekend. 
Lewis Carroll wrote Alice’s famous line, “Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”
Have you done that recently? Believed for amazing things? Are you caught up in the day to day grind without the wonder? Or weighed down by the heaviness of the news?
What if we saw the world as a magical place where wonders happen often?
 After months of some tough news in our county - young men hurt or dying, worrying about water, I am excited that rain is forecasted today. And I am happy to report good news like businesses doing well and our local hospital seeing great improvement. 
 Sometimes life works smoothly and sometimes it falls apart. So if you can’t find me I may be at the sheep barn. But I am building something, raising someone. Or maybe she is helping me? 
Regardless, this year is about helping my daughter pursue her dreams.  
 And maybe like Alice when we wanted red roses but got white, we could consider painting them?
