Syracuse Bulldogs beat Sublette Larks
The SHS Bulldog football team faced the Sublette Larks at Sublette on Friday, September 4 for their season opener. The Bulldogs held the Larks for a final score of 25-0.
The Bulldogs are coached by Jordan Irsik, assisted by Jordan Wahlmeier, Casey Finlay and John Le.
The score at the end of the first quarter was 6-0, with Jay Gould scoring the first touchdown of the game with a 20-yard run. The second touchdown of the game was a 45-yard run by Jay Gould, Juan Pinon’s punt was good with score at half, 13-0
Junior Diaz scored the third touchdown during the third quarter with a 12-yard run and the final touchdown came in the fourth, with a 25 yard pass completion from Gould to Ruendy Potillo.
The Bulldogs rushed for a total of 327 yards and 41 passing yards. Coach Irsik felt the guys played hard and physical, running the ball really well with multiple different players. “This is a testament to an awesome performance from our offensive line,” said Irsik.
Defensively, he was impressed with how disciplined the players were and how well the team communicated. “I was incredibly proud of the work these young men have put in to get such vast improvements in such a short amount of time,” added Irsik.
The Syracuse Bulldogs junior high football team defeated the Sublette Larks 12-6 in their season opener at home Thursday, September 3.
The Bulldogs are coached by Dalton Soullas, assisted by Colten Soelzer. Soullas felt the defense was the highlight of the game saying, “they were in our territory for a majority of the game and came away with only one touchdown.”
Offensively the Bulldogs struggled, creating turnovers and three interceptions. “The passing and the ground game took a while to get going but once it did it was hard to stop,” said Soullas.
According to Soullas, Zeke Tinoco had a good game rushing and Freddy Vazquez did a good job making reads as quarterback. Soullas appreciated Noah Garcia stepping in at quarterback during practice while Freddy was in quarantine. The offensive line will work on pass protection and understanding blocking assignments.
