SCHWIETERMAN TO SERVE NATIONALLY

Scot Schwieterman has been involved in farming his entire life. “I learned how to farm while working for my family. Growing up, I developed a passion for it.”
 In 2018, YO Farms was established with hay, forage, and row crop farming.  Scot’s eagerness to learn, grow, and connect led him to join the Hamilton County Farm Bureau the same year, which led to Young Farmers & Ranchers. 
“Professional development is very difficult to come by in our part of the world. As a self-employed farmer, I saw opportunity in furthering myself.”
Scot began serving on the Kansas YF&R committee and from there applied to the American Farm Bureau Federation. In late December, after a lengthy application process, interviews, and a referral from the President of the Kansas Farm Bureau. Scot received word he had been appointed to the American Farm Bureau Federation 2025-2027 Young Farmers & Ranchers (YF&R) Committee. 
 “I am very excited to represent Kansas. I will fly to Washington, D.C. and will have an orientation meeting, then take communication and leadership courses. We can then help service Farm Bureau’s two conferences, the American Farm Bureau and the YF&R.”
Just under two years ago, they welcomed a baby boy, Walter. Walter is Scot’s middle name and was also his grandfather’s name. As the legacy continues, it also changes. YO Farms is not a typical family farm. He and his wife Kaylee have multiple streams of income and utilize the H2A program for labor.  
Scot feels their farm can help bring a different perspective on the national level. On this committee 14 states are represented. “I am very excited. Kansas has a strong Farm Bureau. To be able to represent Kansas is neat.”
 More exciting news, Scot and Kaylee travel to San Antonio, Texas, next week to compete for the National American Farm Bureau Farmer of the Year.” 
Scot explained that process was also lengthy and thorough including an in-depth interview and application process. 
Scot added, “Hamilton County Farm Bureau has been very supportive to YF&R. I hope that goes to show the strength of our Farm Bureau.”
