THE POOL IS OPEN
The Hamilton County Pool is finally open, with some restrictions, as of Monday, June 8. And the joy of a bit of normalcy in summer is welcomed.
One of the restrictions is the limit of 45 persons at a time in keeping with the social gathering rule.In order to accommodate more customers, the first 45 can swim from 12:00-2:15 and the second group of 45 may swim from 3:30-5:45. These hours will be in place for the first two weeks.
According to manager, Joy Bezona, everyone has been compliant and there have not been any problems. “Only the wait to get everyone signed in and money collected,” said Bezona.
One slight problem is getting the baby pool to drain, so they can clean it, but she expects the problem to be fixed very soon.
Currently there are eleven guards on staff and two are waiting to be trained at the YMCA in Garden City. “The guards loved their training,” said Bezona.
Daniel Roybal is returning as a lifeguard for the fifth year. Bezona explained he is the in-house trainer, training the guards each week, in keeping with the rules. “I really like the environment and being around the kids,” said Royal, adding, “It’s a fun job.“
No private parties or swim lessons are being offered yet, but Bezona hopes with the next phase, they can begin to function like years past.
Jeanie Miller commented, “I am so glad to see the pool open, with all the children with their smiles! The management and lifeguards were enjoying the pool as much as the patrons!!”
