He Makes A Way Where There Is No Way

Someone  confided in me last week that their life lately had been a rollercoaster of emotions.  I mentioned that is where faith comes in.  This world is a master at filling you with fear. 
If you ride the rollercoaster, it will take away everything from you. You can get so focused on the fear, you are missing the joys in front of you.
 This week I got to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. Everyday for the last month has been counting the days, what are we going to do, how old she is going to be.
 Two days before her birthday Israel was attacked and my heart hurt. I saw pain, I saw videos of people saying, “Gas the Jews.”
My heart sunk. 
I know people in Israel hiding in safe rooms, some serving in the army, and some who cannot flee because the airport is shut down. 
As my daughter was speaking to me, my head was fuzzy. I was half there, half filled with panic. 
What is going to happen? What are people capable of? 
How do I navigate this? 
I’m too old to serve in the military, I cannot do anything really besides pray.
  I have seen videos of Jews being tortured and I am disgusted. But I am helpless. I still have a job to do, a child to raise, a family to love, and sheep to work.
  I don’t know what the future holds. That can be frightening. 
So many things, drugs, trafficking, war, can hurt our children. How do we sleep at night?
 I can’t do it without faith. 
  Watch the news for a while and it will get you. Argue politics or religion and you could lose family members or friends.
  I don’t understand all the hate. I don’t undertand any of it. 
That’s when I realized where my heart was. It was here in the world. A broken world where we don’t have eyes to see the bigger picture. 
This is where my faith comes in.
God, you are in control. Not me. I don’t understand any of this. I don’t understand vapes designed as highlighters marketed to children. I don’t understand young people killed in car crashes, or toddlers paraded on television to be executed. 
My heart is heavy, but the precious moment when in the dark my daughter woke me up with joy in her heart to say, “Mommy it’s my birthday.”
All I have is right here, right now. And Jesus. 
I realized I hadn’t opened my bible in a while, hadn’t listened to music which supports my spiritual health. 
He says, “Apart from me you can do nothing.” Amen.
